Jewellery is the hardest thing in retail to light. Polished metal mirrors the room instead of the lamp, a diamond only returns fire when the beam lands at the right angle, and the glass between the fixture and the customer reflects everything — including the customer. The fixtures below are the ones we build for that job, with the real optical data you need to specify them.
Glare on the glass. If the customer can see the lamp in the glass, they are looking at the lamp and not the ring. The fix is aiming, not dimming: bring the beam in from the front-top at an angle that puts the reflection below the sightline, and keep the source deep in the housing.
One colour temperature for everything. A single 3000K wash makes diamonds look yellow; a single 6000K wash makes yellow gold look pale and cheap. Mixed cases need either two colour temperatures or a neutral 4000K with high CRI.
A beam that is too wide. A 110° wash across a tray of rings gives a flat, evenly-lit nothing. Nothing in the tray stands out, and the customer’s eye has nowhere to land.
CRI below 90. This is the one that costs the most and gets noticed the least until it is fixed. Under Ra80, gold loses its warmth and pearls lose their orient.
| Model | Power | Flux | Beam | CRI | Voltage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow gold, rose gold, warm wood trays | 3000K | Keeps the warmth in the metal; cool light reads as tin | ||||
| Silver, platinum, stainless steel, watches | 4000K | Neutral — keeps white metals white without tinting stones | ||||
| Diamonds, crystal, glass | 6000K | Cool daylight reads as brilliance on faceted stones | ||||
| Pearls, opals, coloured gemstones | 3000K–4000K | Mid range, and Ra90 or better is essential to hold the overtone |
| Model | Power | Flux | Beam | CRI | Voltage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A single solitaire or one hero stone | 8°–15° | Tight pool, maximum contrast against the tray | ||||
| A tray of rings or small items | 25°–30° | Pools overlap slightly, no dark gaps | ||||
| A necklace bust or a whole tray | 45°–60° | Covers the object with falloff at the edges | ||||
| Washing an entire shelf or back panel | 110° (light bar) | Even vertical illumination, no scallops |
If a single store carries both small stones and large objects, specify a zoomable head instead of two SKUs — the beam is adjusted on the fixture after installation.

Magnetic track if the display changes often — heads clip in and slide without tools. Pole spotlights if the cabinet has a solid top or no recess depth and the beam has to come in from the side. Flush mount track if the case is new joinery and the client does not want to see any hardware. Heads are interchangeable between surface and flush track, so a store can start on one and move to the other on the next fit-out without replacing fixtures.
Certification, honestly: our standard builds carry CE and RoHS. UL/ETL for North America and ENEC for European tender work are quoted case by case — tell us the destination in the first email and we will price the correct bill of materials instead of shipping a sample that fails inspection later.
What CRI do I actually need? Ra90 is the working minimum for gold and diamonds. Where the display is diamonds or platinum only, specify the Ra ≥ 92 OSRAM chip heads.
How many heads per metre of counter? Work out the pool diameter each beam produces at your mounting height, then space the heads so adjacent pools overlap by about a third. Two well-spaced 1W heads almost always look better than one 3W head punched into the middle.
Can one SKU cover gold and diamonds? Not with a fixed CCT. Either split the case into two colour temperatures, or use 4000K at Ra90 as the compromise and let the merchandise do the rest.
Do you do OEM finishes? Yes — housing colour is customisable, including matched finishes, on OEM runs.
Next step: send us the internal dimensions of the case, the mounting height available, what is being displayed and the destination country — request a quote here and we will size the beam angle, colour temperature and driver before we send a sample.
